Top 5 Tuesday || Covers of 2019

I tend to think of myself as more immune to cover buys than some bloggers I know, but today’s T5T topic is testing my resolve more than usual, thanks to Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm Blog! I’m THIS CLOSE to buying all of them just because they’re pretty (and because they have good stories inside, obviously!), and the only thing stopping me is the fact that my paycheck isn’t bigger. 😠

Descendant of the Crane by Joan He

This is easily one of the prettiest covers of the year, between its gorgeous color scheme, the monumental scale of the crane, the fine linework, and the perfect choice in font. I’m so completely in love with this cover that it’s a crime I don’t already own it.

Also, I am HERE for more books with birds on them. No thanks on YA snake, I’ll still with the birds from now on.

 

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow

It’s probably not too surprisingly that I love a good floral look (I mean, look at my post headers!), but there’s something so stunning about The Ten Thousand Doors of January, and I don’t mean the story inside (which is, incidentally, stunning af). The flowers look like something that belongs in a bullet journal, the subtle keys hidden in them are perfect little touches, and that dead center doorknob is PERFECT for this story! 💛

 

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig

And as much as I’m a sucker for florals, I can’t deny the appeal of a good oceanic cover. HoSaS really gets that salt-crusted, sea-touched vibe DOWN, and it’s so elegant and swirly! Plus, the octopus tentacles and the other little half-hidden tide pool creatures make for stellar little details that totally sell the ominous vibe.

 

We Rule the Night by Claire Eliza Bartlett

The sheer DETAIL on this cover never fails to impress me, and it’s a book begging to land on my shelf! A solid fiery colors on dark scheme is an easy hit with me, and the way the title font is somewhat intertwined with the phoenix behind it makes it stand out in a way that promises that this book is going to reach out and grab you, no hesitation. It’s a powerful cover, if nothing else.

 

A Kingdom for a Stage by Heidi Heilig

If I thought I was in love with the cover of For a Muse of Fire, then I don’t know what to call my feelings for the A Kingdom for a Stage cover! The color scheme is so simple, but so FORCEFUL, and I adore the subtle details in the foliage and the water’s surface, not to mention the skeletal dragon twisting behind the title. And since blue fire is hotter than orange fire, here’s hoping A Kingdom For a Stage packs even more of a punch than the first book did!

 

There you have it: my favorite covers this year! I’m sure there will be more that pop up and take me by surprise with their beauty, but these are the five that have stolen a little corner of my heart for themselves. What are your top covers this year, though?
