SAV’S QUESTIONS

1. How do your organize your books?

Well, when I’m not at school, I have one small bookshelf in my room (it’s all that will fit, which is a tragedy), and it’s for my favorite authors only, organized alphabetically. The shelf in the hall is for everything else, and that one is a little haphazard right now. It does have one shelf devoted solely to Nancy Drew books, though, because my mom gave me her collection when I was younger!

2. How would you describe your aesthetic?

Softly rumpled sheets, bunnies lounging in a sunbeam, a freshly filled journal, hot chocolate in a little mug, pastel hydrangeas, morning rain showers.

At least, that’s the aesthetic I’m hoping for? A lot of the time it’s just more like very tired college student who owns a lot of jeans and doesn’t want to take the extra time to get fancy ever lol.

3. What are your current non-bookish faves?

Stardew Valley is absorbing SO MUCH of my time right now, but it’s so stinking cute that why not??? And also I love sharks, especially thresher sharks. That’s not bookish and it is a fave, so we’re good, right?

OH, and Wynonna Earp! It’s like if Supernatural were actually well written and diverse.

4. What is your favorite character name?

Zamira Drakasha! She’s a pirate, captain of the Poison Orchid in Red Seas Under Red Skies, and I LOVE her name. It’s got this sharp, dangerous edge to it that totally suits a pirate.

5. What are your favorite tropes that some people consider overrated?

I’m not actually sure what’s considered overrated and what’s not, but I do love rivals to lovers, sharing the bed because there’s only one, stuck handcuffed together and forced to cooperate for a day, and last name/formal title basis until they’re in danger and suddenly we break out first names because we’re in love.

6. An author whose writing style you love?

VE SCHWAB ALWAYS AND FOREVER

7. What is your most surprising read? Good or bad?

The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw! I didn’t expect to love it because it is partly a romance, but it was STUNNING. One of my few five star books for the year, it’s super atmospheric and well-written, and I adored every minute of it!

8. A popular & beloved book/series that you have yet to read?

The Discworld books! I have a lot of people recommend them to me, but I’ve never read even one. I think I’m just daunted by the sheer number of books there are.

9. Are you a mood reader or do you follow a TBR?

Uh, let’s say I mood read within my TBR? I give myself a list of a few books to read next, and then pick from that list. It slowly whittles the stack down.

10. Most anticipated 2019 releases

The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson, Bloodwitch by Susan Dennard, Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte, The Girl King by Mimi Yu, We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal, and Hollow Crown by Zoraida Cordova! Plus a ton more, of course, but those are some of the big ones!

MARY’S QUESTIONS

1. What Hogwarts House do you belong to?

I’ve fallen away from HP recently, but I’ll still say Hufflepuff when it comes down to it.

2. Do you have a strict blogging schedule?

Sort of? I try to post reviews on Mondays, and have specific days for certain features (new releases, weekly wraps, not bookish things, etc), but I’m totally flexible if I have a surplus of reviews or tags or what have you! And I don’t sit down and designate specific days for blogging. I just make it happen when I have time for it.

3. Where do you write your blog posts?

Anywhere I can! Most of the time, this is in bed in the evenings, getting distracted by all kinds of things on my laptop, but now that school is back, it’s possible I’ll be writing them up between classes or around meals.

4. How do you decide what you read next?

I prioritize physical books (with the exception of ARCs, which get top priority, especially as their pub dates draw closer), so I usually just choose whatever’s on top of the stack and go! If I have a favorite author in the stack, though, or if any are gifts from friends, those get bumped up in the reading order.

5. What is your favorite type of post to do?

I actually really like writing reviews, but I think it might be because I haven’t found my groove with discussions yet. Not a Book! Thursdays have also been fun, though, because then I get to share my non-bookish interests!

6. Who are a few bloggers that you enjoy reading?

Such a hard question! I really love Kat’s writing posts especially (though her whole blog is absolutely lovely), Clo is just the sweetest person around and has such great discussions, Kaleena’s posts are super engaging and helpful (not to mention she’s just a delight!), and I really like Shealea’s energy and straightfowardness (plus her incredible spreadsheet wizardry)!

7. What is the last book that you loved?

I enjoyed reading Ruin of Stars earlier this month, but it wasn’t quite a five star. My last five star was The House in Poplar Wood, which was so cozy and lovely. First MG I’ve read in a long time, too, and I really had a great time reading it.

8. Do you accept ARC’s or books for review? If so how do you balance those with what you want to read that you own?

I do! I’ve only gotten NetGalley and Edelweiss eARCs so far, and I usually prioritize them if there’s about a month left before their release. Other than that, I don’t worry too much about it. I’m a fast reader, usually finishing 400 or so pages of YA in about three-odd hours, and I’ve somehow made good time management habits. Well, sort of. I procrastinate a lot, but shhhh, we won’t talk about that.

9. What other hobbies do you have other than blogging?

Obviously, reading is a big part of blogging, so I’ll leave that out, but I love writing, playing video games (like LoZ, Pokémon, Stardew Valley, and others), playing Dungeons and Dragons, and before college, I used to play indoor soccer. I want to get back to that eventually, but it won’t happen until after I graduate and can go somewhere that has the facilities for it.

10. What is one reading recommendation for us?

The Diviners series, by Libba Bray! I feel like it doesn’t get enough love, but it’s wonderfully written, diverse, and very paranormal. All good things!

MY QUESTIONS

  1. Do you draft blog posts far in advance, or right before posting them?
  2. Are you the kind of person who collects multiple copies of your favorite book, or do you have only one?
  3. What’s your most anticipated release right now? Can be for this year, next year, whenever!
  4. If you could have any book character as your best friend, who would it be?
  5. Favorite villain of all time?
  6. If the adaptation was guaranteed to be well-funded and written with care, which book would you want to see made into a movie or a show?
  7. Hardcover or paperback?
  8. How many bookshelves do you have, and are they full yet?
  9. What genre is your least favorite to read?
  10. What authors are on your autobuy list?

    • Thank you! And yesssss, another enemies to lovers fan! It’s got to be used just right, but when it is, it’s sooooooo good.

I hope you like The Wicked Deep (SO ATMOSPHERIC), and omg can next year come faster so I can get my hands on We Hunt the Flame ASAP? I’m so happy it’s getting hyped as much as it is, because it sounds AMAZING.

  3. Zamira Drakasha is a kickass name! And I like the tropes you listed; they all force characters to cooperate, so I enjoy these tropes too. 😉 Great answers! (Also, I’d be curious to check out Wicked Deep! I totally disregarded it before, but I’ll be sure to give it a go now!)

    • It’s a kick-ass name for a kick-ass pirate and I love her. Just fantastic. And yesssss, those tropes are so good for that reason (and for nonsense or angst, take your pick…).

I highly recommend The Wicked Deep! Beautifully atmospheric and a wonderful concept! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did if you pick it up. 😊
