TBR Book Tag

TBR Tag

It’s time for another tag, folks! This time, I’ve been tagged by Angelica @ The Book Cover Girl, so thank you!! Now let’s do this!

How do you keep track on your TBR list?

For books I don’t own yet, I use my Goodreads to-read shelf. For the ones I own a physical copy of, I have a literal stack on my floor.

It occurs to me that that’s maybe not the tidiest book keeping out there, whoops.

And for ebooks, anything that’s still on my Kindle hasn’t been read yet! I delete things once I’ve finished reading them so I have storage space to get new ones. If I want to reread, I can always redownload them.

Is your TBR mostly print or e-book?

At the moment, it’s about an even split! I think I have seven or eight on my Kindle, and about the same in the Floor Stack of Doom™. Usually, my Kindle has more on it since I like to read my physical copies while I’m at home. Then the Kindle goes back to college with me, and I don’t have to lug a heavy physical TBR pile with me!

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

Now that I’ve started getting ARCs, I always prioritize those. After that, I tend to choose on a whim. I also tend to finish the smaller books first, because even though I’m a fast reader, there’s still something daunting about 500+ page books.

Also, I tend to stall a little when a book is at the end of a series, especially a series I like. I REALLY want to know what’s going to happen, but if I love it, I’m usually also not ready for it to end.

A book that has been on your TBR the longest?

Well, going off that last question, I’ve been avoiding A Conjuring of Light by VE Schwab for MONTHS because I’m so invested but also not ready for it to wreck me and really extra not ready to let go.

Of course, she is writing another series in the same world AND some comics for it, so maybe I should just suck it up and crack the spine on that one soon.

A book that you recently added to your TBR list?

This is on my Goodreads shelf, so I don’t have a physical copy (also because it releases in 2019 lol), but I just added Cacophony by Kelly Powell to my list! Check out the quick summary because omg I love it already.

A YA historical murder mystery with fantastical elements, in which a violinist with her own secrets must work with the local lighthouse keeper to solve a murder on an island that is also home to deadly sirens who prey on the inhabitants.

There’s a lot going on here and I love it ALL, so I really hope this one is good.

A book on your TBR list strictly because of its beautiful cover?

Okay, so I literally never add a book only because the cover is pretty. Thankfully, some of the books with excellent summaries also have stunning covers, and I think my personal favorite is The Truth Lies Here by Lindsey Klingele!

I really love the color scheme and the layout and pretty much everything about it! Plus, this one is also a murder mystery and I’m always down for murder mystery.

A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading?

Do…do people do this? Man, I am COMMITTED to my TBR. If it’s on the list, I plan to read it eventually!

An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?

Holy smokes, I could go on forever about the books I’m hyped for! You can’t just ask questions like this! But if I had to choose one, I think I’d go with Kate Pentecost’s Elysium Girls, set for winter 2020 publication!

Pitched as Mad Max: Fury Road meets Caraval in an alternate history American Dust Bowl, the book features a girl gang of witches and a wildcard demon who are the most valuable players in a deadly game between the Goddesses of Life and Death, one with possibly apocalyptic consequences.

WITCHES AND DEMONS AND GODDESSES AND AAAAAAHHHH.

Yeah, I’m super ready for this one, and you bet I’ll be watching for an ARC.

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read but you?

Oops, this one is Our Dark Duet by VE Schwab. I have This Savage Song on Kindle, but just haven’t bought the sequel yet! I’ve dodged spoilers, thank goodness, but I feel like anyone I know who loves Schwab has already devoured this, and I’m very behind. I’m really hoping it goes on sale soon, because sale books are a lot easier to justify right now.

A book on your TBR everyone recommends to you?

Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant (who is actually Seanan McGuire)! It has science and killer mermaids AND sapphic main characters, which are all up my alley. I’ve been warned that it’s gory, which is less up my alley, but I’m excited for it anyways. Because mermaids and science and sapphic leads.

A book on your TBR you’re very excited to read?

Rosemarked by Livia Blackburne! I’m going to be doing a buddy read with my friend Áine really soon, and I’m so so so excited for it! Also, the cover is very soft and soothing and I love it.

The number of books on your Goodreads TBR shelf?

164. And counting…

Man, that was fun! I love doing tags, I really do. And hopefully, maybe you do, too!

Since I’m super busy prepping for Camp NaNo right now (it’s getting hardcore over here, oh man), I’m going to leave this totally open-ended! If you want to do the tag, feel free to do it and say I tagged you! I’d love to see other people’s answers to these questions!

  1. I think a stack on the floor to keep track of your books makes a lot of sense! I put mine back into the shelf and now I don’t even know which ones I haven’t read or have read … although, I do have a post it note which includes most of them and I like to cross them off there whenever possible.
